The private schools also receive strong financial support from the state. The tertiary education (3-5 years) is provided through universities (34 public and 60 private universities) and affiliated colleges under supervision of University Grants Commission. Establishment of private universities has gained momentum in recent years. At all levels, students can choose the medium of education from Bangla or English.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka was established on 7 May 1921 according to the recommendation of Sadler Commission. Intermediate colleges and high schools in Dhaka city and Islamic intermediate colleges and high madrasah of greater Bengal were under control of that board. An advisory board made by the director of public education department of greater Bengal was given the authority to govern the board.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka is an autonomous organization, mainly responsible for holding two public examinations (PSC & HSC) and for providing recognition to the newly established non-govt. educational institution and also for the supervision, control and developments of those institutions.

The Ministry of Education is the supreme state office for education which again is subdivided in different directorates for each level while running numerous development projects (Education Projects and Technical projects). According to the article 17 of the Constitution, all the children of Bangladesh are supposed to receive full free education up to secondary level. Secondary and higher secondary schools are affiliated under ten (10) education boards.

Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination results under Dhaka board, Chittagong board, Comilla board, Jessore board, Rajshahi board, Barisal board, Dinajpur board, Sylhet Board of Bangladesh including Madrasa board and Technical Education Board will be published at the same time.
HSC Result 2015, HSC Result, Alim (Madrasha) and Technical Board Examination Result 2015 will be published on end of June or first of July 2015 by the board of intermediate and secondary education, educationboardresults.gov.bd.

Sylhet Board pass rate of 79.13% which was the top position among all the eight general education boards while Chittagong Board the lowest with 61.22% success rate.
Total 74.04% candidates of Dhaka Board, 77.69% in Rajshahi, 71.94% in Dinajpur, 67.49% in Jessore, 74.56% in Comilla and 71.69 in Barisal passed.
However, students of science group achieved top positions with 27,873 GPA-5. Total of 13,139 students got GPA-5 from commerce group And 5,724 from humanities group.
On the other hand, students of commerce group achieved highest pass rate was 77.32%, 72.53% for science groups and 66.30% for humanities group.

Total 11,41,374 examinees attend from 8,104 educational institutions all over the Bangladesh. Besides 606,293 examinees are boys and 535,081 examinees are girls taken part in HSC Exam 2014 under 10 education boards, including madrasa and technical boards.

The HSC exams 2014 held in 5 overseas centres in Doha, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Riyadh and Tripoli for 202 candidates, where 202 students — 91 boys and 111 girls.
Among the 11,41,374 examinees, more than Nine lakh students sited for the HSC exams 2014 under 8 general education boards. 107,557 students appeared in Alim Exams under Madra. Besides, 3,769 students of Diploma in Business Studies also had taken the Exam under the Dhaka Board, as said by the data of Bangladesh Inter-Board Co-ordination Sub-Committee.
